Ages: 6-18
About: This program engages kids in the sport of curling and teaches them the basics of the game. Each week there are volunteer coaches to help provide on and off-ice instruction to the kids. At the start of the season there is lots of time spent on instruction and teaching the basics of the game. This includes: safety, moving on the ice, sweeping, delivering a stone, rules, and etiquette. As the season progresses and the kids have developed the necessary skills to play a game, there will be more time spent on playing games. As players' skills develop, coaches introduce more advanced aspects of the game, including strategy, enhanced skill development and external bonspiel opportunities.
When: Sundays 12pm - 3pm (time will be confirmed based based on number of participants)
Experience Required: None.
Equipment Needed: A clean pair of rubber-soled running shoes or curling shoes
Equipment Provided: Brooms
Cost: $120.00
Try it out: Kids are welcome to join us anytime during the curling season to try out curling.
Other Curling Opportunities: We also work with other clubs in the area to provide opportunities for kids to participate in 3 Interclub Bonspiels (tournaments) in Alliston, Shelburne and Orangeville. This gives the kids an opportunity to go out and curl against kids from other clubs; providing opportunities to meet new friends, socialize, and represent the Alliston Curling Club within the local area. Bonspiels are usually a 1-day event that would typically feature 2 games, with lunch between games, followed by snacks after the 2nd game. These events usually run on Saturday or Sunday from approximately 8:00am – 4:00pm. There is an additional cost for bonspiels; it is usually $20 to participate which covers lunch, snacks and ice rental. Participation is not mandatory. There are also opportunities to participate in more competitive bonspiels, which have varying costs. These bonspiels can be up to 3 games and include meals, snacks and prizes. Participation in these bonspiels is voluntary.
